Subject: header3d
some weird stuff has happened with the 3d stuff over the past few
software releases - with different utilites and demos coming and mostly going...
in the 2.06 disks there was a focal point utility for creating 3d soundfiles
called fp3d.exe plus some documentation about how to do it...in that doc
it mentioned another utility which you attached a 3d header to the file with
called header3d, only its not in the discs.
Does anyone know where to get this from - or some other more recent way
of making 3d soundfiles from samples ?

I tried setting up the Miracle Piano Software with a GUS Max awhile ago, to no
avail. The main problem is that, if you want to use an external MIDI device for
input or output, the Miracle wants it to look exactly like a Roland MPU-401
port. Nothing I've tried so far for the GUS emulates this closely enough to
make the Miracle happy.
The last one I tried was MegaEm 3.03, which didn't lock up, but didn't actually
work either. The Miracle could output just fine to GUS synth using one of the
emulations (Roland SoundCanvas I think), but anything that went out the MIDI
port was totally garbled. And I got no keyboard input whatsoever. I sent a bug
report to Gravis.

Subject: GUS Max as a mult-bank synth
I'm been driving myself nuts trying to get the GUS Max to work as a synth box
with multiple banks. My primary synth is a Roland JV-880. I have some fairly
good patches for the GUS, but I want to keep the basic General MIDI around too,
because the Roland isn't GM-compatible. With around 20MB or more of GUS
patches (did lots of downloading just recently), the GUS makes a nice backup,
when I don't have just the right patch for the Roland.
Which brings me to banking. I'm driving this with Cakewalk Pro 3.01, which does
a great job flipping banks on the Roland, so I figured it would do likewise on
the GUS. But no dice, the GUS ignores the bank entirely, so far anyhow. I can
manually select a bank with the patch manager, but that doesn't cut it if I'm
trying to use multiple custom banks in the same song. Is this a flaw in the GUS
MIDI support, or am I missing something. I'm using 3.5-something GUS software,
if that's any help.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Hi All,
Been a while since I was on the digest. I guess I have been dropped from the
list a few times.
We now have two CD-ROM's of Patches for the UltraSound: The Howling Dog
Systems UltraSound Power Patch CD-ROM Volume 1 and The Pure Energy Howling Dog
Systems UltraSound Power Patch CD-ROM Volume 2, which features patches by Pure
Energy Entertainments in the UK.
Holler if you want more info on these. They are $99.95 US each and have 40 Mb
of sounds ready to go for your GUS.
Watch for an intro package special on both CDs to celebrate the release of
Volume 2.

I had no success with switching melodic banks with CakeWalk Pro 3.0. It
is possible, however, to switch drum banks with CakeWalk Pro 3.0.
First, make sure you have a drum bank created already with Patch Manager
or by editing the ultrasnd.ini yourself. Then, rather than using the
BANK 'window' in the Tracks View, use the PATCH 'window'. If the channel
is set to GS Drum Set, remember that Standard Bank is not Bank #1, but
Bank #0, Power Drum Bank is #15 not #16 in GS Drum Set config.
